Modern Art & Artists

The growth from the latest form of art to modern art was inevitable, as all cycles in art are. With so many new styles and niches appearing for 'artists' to express themself in, modern art was just another step. The move to modern art I believe started with cameras, the industrial revolution and the emerging of all kinds of new technologies in the age. Artists went from making their canvas a reel of film to the expression of things that might capture a different emotion. I think this was all nonsense, nothing can quite take my breath away like a painted landscape of the then 'wild' west. It feels as if the artists themselves got selfish and needy, they felt an emotion, so they expressed it and tryed to make everyone else feel the same way. I'm not saying this is a bad thing or it was always the case, it just feels that way with some modern work. The artist status moved up and new venues helped art become an even bigger part of society. Cameras on the other hand binded the artist, when you can have a true neutral snapshot of someone there is no need to pay alot of money for an artist to use his or her style on your portrait. The modern art focused more on what could be behind a portrait or a fresh new outlook on the people of the city just standing around. The Industrial revolution and emergence of new technology gave modern artists a great of subject matter. From mixed emotions of the common city-dwelling factory worker to the fear that new things might bring awful change for the world. Modern art found it's place where it should have been and no sooner, the artists just got lucky they were so good at it.
