Why the Egyptions were so preoccupied with continuity and permanence.

I think that the Egyptians were so preoccupied with continuity and permanence because they must have had a really good life that they wanted to come back to, and that they also craved immortality. Ancient kings in Egypt were viewed as god-sent and above all other people. The Egyptians spent their lives planning and building their massive tombs full of riches, because they wanted to come back to their nice life and all of their possessions. I also believe that the Egyptians craved immortality because why else would they put so much time and effort into the building of the great pyramid? The king had this massive pyramid with elaborate tombs built for him in his honor- as his final resting place. The kings men who slaved over the project were promised to be taken care of in the after life. This great pyramid symbolized not only the king's eternal life, but life in general. The Egyptians lived by the stars, because they viewed them as heavenly. They based the whole construction of the great pyramid on a set of stars that didn't move. Certain passages in the great pyramid face these stars because they believed that these passages were going to lead the king out of his tomb and to those stars. I believe it is evident that the Egyptians built this great pyramid, along with all the other pyramids, as a way of answering and preparing for the after life, and preparing for the immortality that they craved.
