The future of Graphic Design

I think the future of graphic design may head backwards. That just like during industrial times (when technology began to move faster and faster) we may find ourselves becoming part of something like another arts and crafts movement. That people may revert back to things that are handmade in an attempt to hold on to the past or the 'good ole days.' We also my be involved with a movement of keeping it custom, that everything has to be original; no clip art, mainstream fonts, etc. That if you are doing a photo montage all photos used must be photos you took, and other such examples of that nature. This is most likely an attempt at trying to produce originality in an unoriginal nothing new under the sun world. With so much mass commutations and availability of it in the world it is hard to find anything new because across the globe, one can see and have proof it has already been done. However, because of this availability we're able to more quickly find references and be inspired by classical works of art. I think interactive media such as gif files and web pages will be absorbed, already are (and I need to quickly understand how to develop them and make them work) into the design world. Also, all designers will have online portfolios and most already do. So, I need to get on that. I may need to retract an earlier statement made about the design world heading backwards by moving into a more hand done movement. Because I don't believe the design world or any process in the development of mankind can go backwards. But any how this actually is my way of coming back to this notion of a new arts and crafts movement. I say new because it would be. Because I have an interest in typography it is cool to me that this is one of the things that will be done (designed) by hand once again. So, any with the know how in that department such as the designers of Helvetica will be sought out for their knowledge. Many things like this will work there way back into schools. Design moves just like fashion, it makes a circle, it reverts back ten years with slight modern twists, and tries to stay hip and this form of hip is processed in schools and into students who not only get taught the current style but get taught to convert fast with the next one (hopefully). In conclusion, I think the faster technology moves the faster the design world will move, and that eventually it will ran so fast so long it will have to stop and take a breath.
