Is less more?

The style preference is always changing and varies for each person. As far as design concepts are concerned the artist must take into consideration the purpose of the design and the designs audience. Brands, labels, logos, and personal stamps have been around since the first Sumerian village. Back then the invention of personal stamps came out of necessity; the village people needed ways to be able to mark their ownership on their property. Even after all these years the need is still felt to be the same, just with more complex meaning. In our consumer driven economy, brands and logos are almost more important than the actual product itself. With brands and logos having such high influence the need for more simplistic and identifiable designs is the norm. So in this case less is more.

The “less is more” concept does not just apply to labels, brands and logos it influences almost every design field. The Modern Era is all about minimalism, organization, and function. These characteristics carry through interior design, abstract artwork, literature and graphic design. Now days there is such a high demand of information at super speeds, people don’t take the time to sit and meditate about the meaning of something. People want to be able to look at something and label it. The modern person has to give labels to everything from clothing, movies, and even people. There is a major need for convenience and time saving products so why wouldn’t the designs be the same. The designs of a product have to show the meaning of the product as well as persuade the customer to want the product. When designs are to complex they confuse the audience and feel to busy to get the main idea across. This isn’t what a company, clients, or consumers want. Life is difficult and busy as it is already adding overwhelming and complex media to the mix would just aggravate not influence the customer.
