Is less more in terms of design? The wonderful thing about this question is that the answer is strictly personal opinion. Now don't get me wrong here, that personal opinion is going to be influenced by the time period, culture, and personal influences that that have created the individual being asked. For example, if you could ask Frank Lloyd Wright for his opinion and then ask most any architect or designer from say the Victorian era, you would most certainly get two very different responses. Further more, it is easy to see how artists of different groups or movements are likely to have very different thoughts on the subject (Bauhaus vs. Arts & Crafts).
My own personal opinion has also been influenced by life experience, my own sense of style, as well as the teachings of my instructors. I am personally drawn to the very clean lines of "modern"minimalism. From a design stand point, I love the styles of Art Deco, Art Nouveau's flowing lines, as well as the Bauhaus and other similar styles. So too answer the original question, yes. While I have a tendency to get lost in minor details from time to time in my own work, I do believe that less is more in terms of design.
