Artists like Michelangelo, Caravaggio, and Da Vinci have the title "art master" because the art that they created during the Renaissance and Baroque periods were different in style as opposed to what others were painting at that time. The artists became famous because they painted in ways that people of that time have not seen before. They created realistic figures that showed personality and uniqueness.
I don't think we have artistic "masters" today. Artists today already have the knowledge and inspiration of the "masters". The viewers of today's art have a large effect on today's artists. Its hard to impress viewers today because they have seen almost everything and expect something better than that of the art "masters". Which makes artists work harder to be even more creative. I think that artists today will be just as famous and masterous as Da Vinci, Michelangelo, Caravaggio and many others. Time has made the art "masters" masters and in the next 700 years (more or less) artists today will also be recognized just as much.
