Will we ever learn

Iconoclasm is in essence the deliberate destruction within a culture of the culture's own religious icons and other symbols or monuments, usually for religious or political motives. It’s a horrible thing that still occurs even to this day. One would think we would learn from the past and, stop destroying all these unique one of a kind works.

To me this destruction is just another way to censor the people. Destroy it wipe it from our memories and hope that we will forget. Sadly many times it has worked or at least caused us to lose our history or what could have been colorful additions to our history.

That why I believe the destruction of graffiti when placed in art form should not be white washed over so many images have been from artist who just couldn’t afford a canvas. Depicting a range of images from religion to landscape and everything in between. It’s an art form just like any other however its not considered as such. With cities paying thousands of dollars each year to erase those images away from their cities and out of our minds.

I think it’s a real shame we can’t find middle ground on this subject and I find it even sadder that we have lost so many wonderful pieces of art over then centuries to religious based wars and ignorant people. My only hope is that with time we will finally one day learn how important all art is no matter the subject matter or the god that is depicted.
