The effect of the Plague on artistic poroduction in 14th century italy
Italy suffered heavy losses from the plague, nearly half of its population. This prompted many religous and devotional works to be commissioned by the churches and the rich. Most of these works were a sort of memorial to survivors and the deceased alike.
