The Realms of The Unreal

Henry Darger was an outsider artist. People say this because Darger didn't have any sort of training or schooling for his art. Darger was only 17 when he walked all the way back to Chicago from the child nut house he was living in. Darger became a collector of magazines and comics and kept them to later experiment with overlays and collages. Darger eventually created his own world and got lost in his artwork. Darger created this realm where kids were all slaves and how the adults are the slave owners. Darger's art work were not all small (even though some where), most of his artwork were as big and tall as his walls. Darger spent hours and even lost himself in his artwork. Darger would go to work and then spend the rest of the time in his artwork. Darger created the wars between the children and adults and brought all of his artwork into a novel that consisted of about 1500 pages. This novel might be the longest novel ever made. Darger's girls were drawn with male genitals while running, smiling, or playing. No one knows why Darger drew the girls like that...it's something that we'd have to ask him our self. As Darger got older he became sick which limited himself in doing things. Darger spent a lot of his older years inside his house creating more scenes and adding more words to his novel. I would agree with others when they say Darger is an "outsider artist" because he is. i don't feel that saying that is an offense because it shows that Darger is a great artist and learned it all himself. Darger is an example that some people don't need to go to school or be taught by a professionals. Some people are born to do art.
