The poster titled “Don’t let another Bush into the White House” is an example of today’s political propaganda from the world of graphic design. The broken torch and burned out flame represent the breaking of our laws in the Constitution and the freedoms it guarantees. The flame on the statue of liberty represents the freedom that America presents to the rest of the world. The United States has been considered a beacon of hope and now in this depiction, the flame has been extinguished and the torch broken.
The chaining of the Statue represents that we have had freedoms taken from us by the government. There have been abuses by the current administration concerning privacy laws. These are the very laws that the country was founded on. Privacy is an area that most would agree should remain just that, private.
The clouds in the background represent the clouds of war along with the colors selected for the poster. The foreign policy of Bush has been considered by some as not in the best interest of the United States. By invading countries not associated with the September 11 attacks, we have caused a lot of furor in the world. We are now demonized in the Muslim world as the Great Satan. This policy will cause the United States to be targeted for a long time.
The slogan, “ Don’t let another Bush into the White House” shows that the people of the country are fed up with the policies of Bush. McCain has voted with the President 90 percent of the time and he is perceived as continuing the Bush policies.
